We received cad problem report from users of Autocad MEP 2012 / Autocad 2012 about missing drawings objects when editing the drawing using the block editor mode. (command: bedit)

For us to understand the problem and know how to solve it we tried to reproduce the error by following the steps below:

1. Open existing files with blocks in it.
2. Double click block to open block editor. Alternatively you can also use the bedit command.
3. Make some changes.
4. Save the drawing using ctrl+s or the menu button (We always do this periodically to avoid loss of data)
5. Close the drawing without using the “close block editor”
6. Follow the save file prompt.

Now when we open the file the only objects that you will see are the drawings or geometry of the block you were editing when the file was closed. 

Lets relate the situation to our actual work flow. For example we are working on a composite drawing and edit one of the blocks.  Unfortunately instead of hitting the “close block editor” to save the changes we’ve made we have selected the close button and saved the file like the steps we’ve mentioned above. Then all the objects in your composite except the block we are editing will be missing. In few seconds because of this bug all the efforts/works spent on that drawing were gone.

Temporary Solution

When we encounter this technical glitch, the last thing in our mind is to redraw the file.

Fortunately, there is a quick fix to get back the missing drawings so we don’t need to redraw the whole thing again.

Quick Fix – run the “recover” command then select the infected file.

Permanent Solution

Autodesk is now aware of this problem and they’ve released a fix to solve this issue.  It is called “The Block Editor Save Corruption Hot fix”.  All installed Autocad MEP 2012 should be updated to apply this fix so as to avoid recurrence  of this problem and prevent potential data loss.

If you want to avoid that long route, read on and I’m going to show you a simple way how to change Autocad network to standalone  or Autocad standalone to network. This little trick works for Autocad and other Autodesk product verticals like Autocad MEP, Autocad P&ID, Autocad Plant 3D, Autocad Structure, Autocad Map etc.

Impotant: We are going to modify the registry of your machine so better backup your registry data. If something went wrong you can quickly load your old registry data and re-start the process.

Start:

Run the registry editor (regedit) and locate this key in the registry:

For 2011 version: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R18.1\ACAD-9001:409\AdLM

For 2012 version: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R18.2\ACAD-A001:409\AdLM

Now once you locate the key registry simply change the type value, it doest matter whether it is hexadecimal or decimal. 

Use 1 for Network

Use 2 for Standalone

Use 3 for Multiseat Standalone

Close the registry window and start your Autocad.

Errors found in references to other objects:

** Application reference missing: ACAD, to AcDbLinetypeTableRecord.

Time and time again I’m receiving this autocad error whenever I want to use the "edit block in place" also known as "refedit". 

I really don’t know the root cause of this problem but I suspect, this pesky error will occur if someone put extended data in your drawing object and by pure luckyour drawing got corrupted!

Well, we can still edit the drawing using the block editor, but moving the lines or drawing object in the proper place will be quite daunting for us specially if we preparing coordination drawings.

Anyways, for those who are trying to crack this problem so they can use the refedit functionality for drawings/block affected by this error, here is what I did to solve this headache:

Step 1.  Select all the text and hide it.  For Autocad MEP users, the simplest way to select hide all text is to use the "select similar" command or press CTRL+SHIFT+A , right click then click isolate object.

Step 2.  Now that all the texts are hidden, select the remaining all the remaining objects in drawings (circle, lines, polylines, arrows etc) then run the command "flatten". If asked to Remove Hidden Lines? press "N"

Flatten is a command to convert 3D solids to flattened 2D view.

Step 3.  After the flatten command is finished, just recreate the block, put it in your coordination drawing and thats it!

Amazingly the flatten command works like a charm to clean our drawing block infested by Application reference missing: ACAD, to AcDbLinetypeTableRecord error.

Refer below for the actual error message:

The most common reason is incorrect configuration of mail client. To solve this problem just configure your email client to the SMTP server.

Here’s how I quickly fix th error in outlook:

Go to Tools > Account Setting >> Select the email account & click Change >> More Settings >> Outgoing Server >> Tick My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.

Note: If you want to open dgn file in autocad that’s fine. But I tell you its time consuming! To open dgn file in autocad just use the command “dgnimport“. This is good if you will only open 3-5 dgn drawings. What if you are going to review or plot thousands of these! For sure it will eat too much of your productive time..

Job Already in Progress

A plot or publish job is already being processed in the background.  Only one job can be processed at a time.

Wait for the job to complete, and then try again.

This is not actually an error but a notification for background processing in Autocad.  When this is enabled you can only plot one autocad file at a time. In short, if you have 100 different drawing file, you need to wait for the previous plot job to complete before you can iniate a new plot job. 

If you hate to wait and want to get rid of this job already in progress thing.. then you should turn off the background plot. 

Go to Format (shortcut = OP)  >> Options >> Plot and Publish tab >> unchecked the plotting & publishing background processing option.

That’s how to get rid of that “Job in Progress – - plot and publish notification” in Autocad.
